For those working in the oil and gas industry, safety is vital, especially in the occasion of a workplace accident.

The profession of oil and gas excavation is not an easy process, and in the event that anything disastrous occurs, the best reaction would be one that is proactive.

“Anybody was replaceable, as long as the money was pouring in.

The industry is one of the propelling forces backing the global economy, but its minacious working conditions leave workers. Improper working regulations but there are multiple measures that can be taken with planning ahead.

History of The Industry.

Looking back at the history of Oil extraction and safety regulations, it is important to recognize the early days of oil excavation had absolutely no importance on safety regulations. When the industry took flight in the 1880’s, the safety of workers was pushed back, as profits grew, workers lives were flagrantly put in danger.

Anybody was replaceable, as long as the money was pouring in. In the beginning, oil was contained in dilapidated wooden and steel containers, allowing the escaping fumes to not only effect workers with its overwhelming smell, but also causing fires.

Life threatening work conditions lead to a record of fatalities, which became commonplace. As time progressed however, safety protocols were called for, the progress eventually leading to the creation of advanced and highly developed safety procedures such as the PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)

Oil and Gas Safety Today.

Moving back to the present, the new technology has changed the oil and gas industry exponentially. However, to this day, there are still workplace injuries due to carelessness of the company, and lack of worker safety regulations. And most injuries (70% according to the U.S. Department of Labor) are due to lack of gloves.

It seems strange, considering how far the industry has come in worker safety, and with the omnipresent use of PPE, people may be asking, what exactly is going wrong? There seems to be a correlation between familiarity and safety, where workers become comfortable in their work environment, and begin to move laxer within the area and possibly without protective gear. It is important for companies to reiterate safety measures to their workers, as mundane and trivial as it may seem, it could be the difference between life and death. Experience as a worker does not guarantee there will be no accidents on the job site.

Superior Glove is here to help stop workplace injuries. Finding the correct glove is vital, but more importantly, keep in mind that even the most advanced tools will not prevent dangers if used incorrectly or with carelessness.

Life in the oil and industry can be demanding but knowing how to manage the possibility of inherent risks can make a big difference in a hazardous workplace. Safety should always come first, as trivial as the protocol may seem, it may save your life.
